Hospitals say telemedicine improves care, outcomes

Community hospitals that are part of the tele-ICU service Maryland eCare have a direct link to intensivists, and staff say it has improved care and saved lives. Ed Grogan of Calvert Memorial Hospital said telemedicine has "dramatically reduced our ICU mortality rate," and registered nurse Anne Lockhart said it has led to fewer cases of ventilator-related pneumonia.
