Smartphones, tablets used as second screen by 84% of owners

Most smartphone and tablet users have treated their devices as second screens while watching television, Nielsen has found. The portable devices serve as a resource to look up plot summaries, a platform to make purchases while watching ads and a way to access to social media. The study also found that 1 million Americans tweet about television shows on a typical day.
