Violence prompts U.S. to issue travel alert for Mali

The State Department is warning Americans to avoid travel to northern Mali as kidnappings, armed robberies and conflicts have taken place. Landmines are also present. The Mali borders with Niger and Algeria, the area north of Timbuktu, the Kidal region, and the city of Tinzawaten are particularly dangerous, according to the travel alert.
