Chicago-to-St. Louis HSR project advances earlier than expected

The proposed high-speed rail route between Chicago and St. Louis marked a milestone as local officials submitted to the Federal Railroad Administration an environmental report and 11 route alternatives for the track through Springfield, Ill. "It's going to happen quicker than we anticipated," said Spingfield Mayor Mike Houston. "Once the study is released, there'll be hearings and a chance for the public to comment."
