New teachers in Ore. are paired with mentors

The Oregon Mentoring Program, launched in 2007, provides grants that allow new teachers to work with trained mentors during their first two years in the classroom. The grants help pay the salaries of the mentors, who observe lessons and provide guidance and feedback to the novice teachers. "I can be a bridge between beginning teachers and veteran teachers not only in the building but across the district," said mentor Karen Herinckx.
