Asians have higher diabetes risk despite lower BMI

Japanese-American women had twice the risk of diabetes as white women, even though they had lower BMI, researchers reported at the Excellence in Diabetes 2013 meeting. Researchers said hidden visceral fat may contribute to the increased risk of diabetes in some ethnic groups.
