FY2012 Medicare fraud recoveries totaled $4.2 billion

Federal officials announced that the Health Care Fraud and Abuse Program recovered $7.90 for every dollar spent on investigations over the last three years. This was the highest ever three-year average return on investment. The program recovered $4.2 billion in fiscal 2012 from drug companies, hospitals, vendors and health care providers.
