Study: Heart-healthy diet, alcohol could decrease prostate problems

A low-fat, heart-healthy diet -- combined with moderate alcohol intake -- could decrease the risk of prostate problems, according to a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology. A high-fat diet boosted the risk of benign enlargement of the prostate or symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia by 31%, the study revealed. Daily consumption of red meat caused the risk of BPH to rise by 38%, whereas the risk was lowered by 32% with diets containing four or more servings of vegetables daily.
