WFP: Biofuel emphasis furthers food insecurity

The trend among the world's farmers to focus more on growing source crops for biofuels is contributing to food insecurity for the world's poor, the World Food Programme said Wednesday. The shift to biofuel crops combined with rising transportation costs and severe weather are said to be largely responsible for the soaring prices for food staples around the world.
