Battle over EU tax on financial transactions looms

EU nations might be asked in March to support or block a proposed financial-transaction tax. The decision could determine whether a smaller group of countries should move forward with their own tax. The UK government opposes an EU-wide levy, saying it would damage the City of London. EU finance ministers are scheduled to meet in Brussels in mid-March.
