NYC teachers' ratings to be released to the public

A court in New York declined Tuesday to consider an appeal from a teachers union seeking to block the public release of New York City teachers' ratings. The United Federation of Teachers argued that releasing the ratings -- which evaluate teachers based on students' test scores -- would invade teachers' privacy. Matt Mittenthal, a spokesman for the city education department, said the ratings would be released "in the coming weeks."
