CenturyLink rides business unit to wider profit

CenturyLink more than doubled its fourth-quarter net earnings from a year earlier, driven largely by the success of cloud-based business services, the telecom said Wednesday. The telecom made consumer gains as well, adding 41,000 broadband subscribers, for a total of 5.85 million. The company's Prism TV video service grew by 10,000, for a total of 115,000 subscribers. Operating revenues and costs both fell slightly.
