Experts tie NAFLD, insulin resistance to carotid thickness in diabetes

Data published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism revealed carotid intima-media thickness was greatest among type 2 diabetes patients with both non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and insulin resistance as well as in insulin-resistant and insulin-sensitive patients without NAFLD. The results suggest that NAFLD combined with insulin resistance may be used in stratifying heart risk in patients, researchers noted.
