The nuclear industry "has and continues to improve through innovation," writes Milton Caplan, chairman of the World Nuclear Association Economics Working Group. He cites the improvements done by nuclear plant operators to the operating fleet, which increased capacity factors from the mid-80% range in the 1980s to more than 90% today. "We must be able to demonstrate that today's nuclear technology is a technology of the future and that advancements are indeed coming that make every project better than the last" because "our strength is through our performance. And our performance continues to get better through innovation," writes Caplan.
