Well-child visits may be risk factor for influenza-like illness

Influenza rates were higher among families who had attended well-child visits during the flu season, according to a study in the journal Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. The additional flu risk may be responsible for almost 780,000 excess cases of influenza-like illness, with an estimated cost of $500 million each year, researchers estimated. The authors suggest scheduling well-child visits around flu season and enforcing infection control efforts.
