Airline mergers will shift alliances

Consolidation among major airlines would affect alliances within the industry, sources say. Continental Airlines President Jeff Smisek recently noted that Continental, Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines are all members of the SkyTeam alliance. He said membership could change if Delta and Northwest combine but declined to comment further.
