House committee introduces amended farm bill draft

House Agriculture Chairman Collin Peterson, D-Minn., and Rep. Robert Goodlatte, R-Va., have presented a revised farm bill proposal that provides $6 billion in farm-spending increases to fund nutrition initiatives and renewable energy development, particularly next-generation biofuels. The lawmakers unveiled the 10-year bipartisan plan in the hopes of pushing Senate negotiations on the bill forward and beating the March 15 deadline for the legislation's renewal.
