Dramatic premium increases put small companies in a bind

Insurance rates have increased as much as 30% over the last year for many small companies whose owners face the prospect of raising prices to cover the costs or dropping insurance as a benefit. Encino, Calif., insurance broker Steven D. Turner says small businesses do not have the profit margins larger employers have, and Los Angeles insurance broker Rick Martin says premium increases are bigger than ever.
