Investors embrace Treasury bonds as retail sales disappoint

A disappointing report on retail sales has hurt enthusiasm about the economic recovery, prompting more investors to look to Treasury bonds as a safe haven. "Bond bulls are trying to make a case that the economy will lose momentum in the first quarter just like last year, so any weaker-than-expected number gives them hope," said Thomas Roth, an executive at Mitsubishi UFJ Securities (USA).
