Kan. House committee OKs expanded scope of practice for hygienists

A bill approved by Kansas' House Health and Human Services Committee would create a third type of permit for dental hygienists that would expand the list of services they can provide and allow them to work outside a dentist's office with children and patients older than 65. Hygienists with 2,000 hours of experience who have completed a new training program would be allowed to provide certain temporary fillings, repair chipped teeth, make adjustments to dentures and apply local anesthetics.
