Pet food is an important tool veterinarians use to address illnesses in pets, including liver and kidney disease and allergies, writes veterinarian Ann Hohenhaus. Elimination diets are used to determine allergies in pets: By removing items such as beef, chicken, corn and wheat and replacing these with kangaroo, rabbit, duck, peas and sweet potato, veterinarians can determine the source of a pet's allergy.
