Sen. Lautenberg, critic of media consolidation, won't run again

Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., who has consistently criticized News Corp. and other big media alliances, has decided not to run again in 2014. The 89-year-old lawmaker has used his place on the Commerce Committee to seek the denial of the license for News Corp.'s WWOR-TV in Secaucus, N.J., due to concerns about a lack of local news. News Corp. operates the outlet under a federal waiver of rules barring cross-ownership of newspapers and TV stations in the same market.
