Trade expert warns developing countries against open-resource move

An Australian trade expert warned countries considered rich in biodiversity against joining an international move toward open resources, the practice of restricting patents that can be taken on products based on genetic resources. Alan Oxley said developing countries have more to lose, primarily income from biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms that would lose public confidence in the security of their products.
