$8 billion available for rail service

From Massachusetts, Virginia and North Carolina to California, states hope for a piece of the $8 billion available in the economic recovery package for rail services. California has proposed a $45 billion high-speed rail, and Southern states hope for a new high-speed route from Charlotte, N.C., to Washington, D.C. Northeast Corridor commuters would welcome the proposed upgrades that would have the Acela move at 150 mph. However, the government's $8 billion will not cover all costs for all projects.
