Could work force gender shift backfire on women?

Women now represent 49.1% of the work force and are close to becoming a majority because of recent layoffs. While Rutgers University's Mary Murphree calls this a "paradigm shift," she says the trend could backfire on women who feel anxious about requesting maternity or child-care leave, and she fears that companies could eliminate beneficial diversity programs.
