Pounded by its biggest falloff in export volume, Japan's economy contracted by 3.3% in the last quarter of 2008, three times the decline suffered by the U.S. in the same quarter. It is also the biggest drop for Japan since the oil crisis of 1974. Economists anticipate another negative figure for the first quarter of this year. Japanese media reported that the government is seriously considering further economic-stimulus measures.
