Analysis: JPMorgan acquisition is hedge against "Volcker rule"

JPMorgan Chase was originally negotiating to acquire all of Sempra Energy and Royal Bank of Scotland's commodity-trading joint venture, but instead it agreed to buy the European and Asian divisions of the venture. Concern about the proposed "Volcker rule," which would prohibit some banks from conducting proprietary trading, derailed the plan.
