BRC says retailers understand "importance of alcohol labelling"

The British Retail Consortium said merchants are already providing unit labelling on own-brand alcoholic beverages. The government has claimed that the drinks industry is not meeting a voluntary accord on labelling, but the BRC says retailers have embraced the effort. "Retailers are responsible. They don't need to be told to do this. From the very start retailers recognised the importance of unit labelling to encouraging responsible drinking," said BRC food director Andrew Opie.
