Kansas City, Mo., school leaders to gather input on consolidation plan

Kansas City, Mo., schools chief John Covington is seeking public input on a cost-saving consolidation plan that would close about half of the district's 60 schools. Some have praised Covington's plan -- which would include cutting more than 700 teacher and staff positions as well as the district's African-focused education program -- while others point to similar plans that failed in large school districts such as Detroit.
