Researchers target chemical reaction in malaria parasites

U.S. researchers have identified a chemical reaction common in malaria parasites and disease-causing bacteria, but not in humans, that allow the parasites to survive. By exploring the chemical mechanism, the researchers were able to develop an inhibitor to the IspH enzyme, which plays an important role in the process. The inhibiting compound, called PPP, is "one thousand times more potent than previous inhibitors," the lead researcher said.
