Some risk factors for "never events" can't be changed

An analysis of about 890,000 surgeries showed there may be unmodifiable risk factors that lead to so-called "never events" in hospitals. The study said patient age, pre-existing conditions and the type of procedure itself can increase the risk for certain complications, such as surgical site infections and decubitus ulcers.
