Lacking certain enzyme in the gut may be a precursor to diabetes

A study in Cell Host and Microbe showed that mice that are unable to make intestinal fatty acid synthase, a key enzyme for lipid production, developed chronic inflammation in the gut. The findings suggest diabetes may begin in the intestines, researchers said.
