Program involves parents to curb obesity in Latino preschoolers

The Fit For Healthy Weight program at Mattel Children's Hospital at the University of California, Los Angeles, resulted in a 9% reduction in the number of overweight, low-income Latino preschoolers, compared with a 16% increase in obesity rates in the control group that received only a nutritional brochure, according to a study in Childhood Obesity. The pilot program combines exercise, nutrition and parenting topics for the mothers of children ages 2 to 5.
