Sixth-grade student wins CEC award for self-advocacy

Sixth-grade student Cade Gardner, who has learning disabilities, as well as a cleft lip and palate, is among the winners of the Council for Exceptional Children's "Yes, I Can!" award for self-advocacy. Gardner, a middle-school student in Lebanon, Pa., works with other students who have similar disabilities and has started speaking to groups. "I like to make other people understand what I have and to help other kids not feel bad about themselves," Gardner said. "I like to give them more confidence."
