Study: Fracking isn't directly linked to water pollution

A study by the University of Texas at Austin's Energy Institute found no direct link between hydraulic fracturing and groundwater pollution. Aboveground spills or other incidents of drilling-wastewater mismanagement are the usual causes of contamination, said Charles Groat, the study's director. "These problems are not unique to hydraulic fracturing," he added.
