Fifth-graders at Waggoner Road Middle School in Ohio are working to raise $5,000 by mid-March to repair a drummer-boy statue that is part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park in Tennessee. Ohio teacher Derek Hinkle sparked his students' interest by sharing stories of his family connections to the Civil War and the monument. Hinkle said the students' efforts allow them to honor history and veterans. "They're able to see that history matters," he said.
