Even in the vast land of Antarctica, a research station powered by wind and the sun is thriving. Belgium's Princess Elisabeth station is the first carbon-free research station in the world. The steel-cased structure uses micro-organisms and decomposition that lets inhabitants reuse shower and toilet water up to five times before it's discarded.
