Companies resort to bartering to get needs met

Many small businesses have resorted to bartering for goods and services because loans are hard to get and cash is tight. Two New York businessmen, for example, are exchanging graphic-design work for communications strategy. Direct bartering and bartering networks can help small businesses survive the recession, says Carmen Bianchi, adjunct professor of family business management at San Diego State University.
