States plan to use funding from the federal economic stimulus package to build bridges and highways, repair rural airstrips and levees and improve local water systems, among other projects. In Missouri, Kevin Keith, chief engineer at the state DOT, said there are more projects on the state's list of infrastructure projects than the stimulus plan will cover. Illinois plans to use $1.58 billion in funding for bridges, public transit and water projects. The legislation also provides about $70 million for levees along the Rio Grande in New Mexico's Doña Ana County.
