January construction starts slide

Construction starts dropped sharply in January, according to Reed Construction Data. Experts attributed the 23% decline to the deepening recession. Heavy starts fell 13% in January from the prior month, while commercial starts fell 23% and institutional starts declined 28%. Meanwhile, experts expect infrastructure funding included in the economic-stimulus legislation to ease the slide in construction starts later this year.
