Maryland seeks to continue exit-exam waivers

State school board officials in Maryland are recommending the extension of a waiver program that allows students to graduate from high school without passing core-subject exit exams or completing comprehensive graduation projects. The board's proposal applies primarily to students in special education or English-language learners who were unable to meet the requirements because of a lack of remediation by schools.
