Annuities experienced a poor Q4 but a solid year, LIMRA says

Annuity sales struggled in the fourth quarter of 2011, but nonetheless saw a strong year overall, according to a LIMRA report. Total annuity sales experienced a slight drop to $57.4 billion for the fourth quarter, when variable-annuity sales largely were unchanged from the same period in 2010. Total 2011 annuity sales were $240.3 billion, however, with variable annuities and fixed immediate annuities seeing sales gains.
