401(k) providers aim to help employees invest better

Companies that provide 401(k) plans are finding that it isn't enough to hand employees an information packet and hope they'll smartly managing their savings. Vanguard, which runs 4,000 defined-contribution plans for 3.5 million workers, offers 401(k) plans that can run on autopilot and is now experimenting with offerings that maximize savings and employer matches with the click of a single button on a computer screen.
