Cases of severe birth defects continue to climb in Wash.

CDC and state researchers have not determined the cause of a cluster of neural tube defect and anencephaly cases that have shown up in rural Washington state in recent years. No common factor has been determined, and clusters of rare birth defects and other health problems can arise simply by chance, health officials said.
