Consider carrying mortgage payments into retirement carefully

It's becoming more common for workers to carry mortgage debt into retirement, but the payments may have a big effect on retirement wealth, a report from the National Center for Policy Analysis finds. While some retirees expect to offset the payments with itemized tax deductions or by moving to a less expensive state, the report finds that these strategies might not work as well as expected.
