Newly developed hemp plant produces high-oleic oil

A new type of hemp plant that produces oil with a fatty acid content similar to that of olive oil has been developed by researchers at the U.K.'s University of York. The high-oleic oil is more heat-tolerant and shelf-stable than other hemp oils and could have a variety of applications, including cooking oil and biofuel, according to the study published in Plant Biotechnology Journal. Field trials of the plant are being launched throughout Europe this year.
