Study backs transcranial Doppler ultrasound for PFO detection

Data presented at the International Stroke Conference suggest transcranial Doppler ultrasound is the better route for detecting patent foramen ovale. The approach outperforms transesophageal echocardiography and better predicts the five-year risk of embolic events, which is a key factor in determining the course of treatment, according to the study.
