Study: China overcomes traditional social-class divides in education

Seemingly disadvantaged students in China are outperforming their more privileged peers in England in maths, according to a recent report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. According to the report, 15-year-old students from Shanghai whose parents held elementary jobs, such as factory worker or cleaner, scored an average of 569 on an independently administered maths exam. That's compared with an average score of 526 among UK students whose parents worked in professional careers.
