Houston sanctions cheating educators

Houston Superintendent Abelardo Saavedra has fired two fifth-grade math teachers for helping children cheat on the state exam last year and demoted their principal for failing to exercise adequate administrative controls. The district launched an inquiry when more than 90% of fifth-graders at Sanderson Elementary School this year earned perfect or near-perfect scores, even though fourth-graders landed in the bottom 2% of the state for their math scores last year.
