House health IT legislation carries strong privacy protections

Health IT legislation introduced by two lawmakers would create a standards-setting process and provide grants to establish a nationwide health information exchange network. The TRUST bill also would include mandatory notification of privacy breaches in health IT systems, an opt-in system requiring patient consent for EHRs and security protections for records.
